The Colts section at Shooters Hill (2001) Cricket club is aspiring to have a very good reputation both for coaching of young players and also success on the cricket pitch. The behaviour of the colts has impressed club members and coaching staff alike.
The cricket club committee has made a great effort over the past few years to establish the club on a firm footing with the Kent Cricket authorities and the ECB. This is now becoming a possibility and I am undertaking a 12 month plan to register our Club for Clubmark Status working closely with the KCB. Basically, this means that the club will be able to be recognised as one that runs efficiently with the necessary staff, maintaining accounts, constitution, well organised (both on and off the field), with the qualified members. This refers to coaching standards, first aid provision and proper supervised care for members, in particular junior members.
In support of this aim and for the colt’s section, all coaches have attained or are working towards attaining necessary coaching awards, first aid training and more importantly, child protection and good practice workshop qualifications. The child protection aspect is now paramount in the care and welfare of all young people taking part in sport throughout the country. I can now confirm that our 4 main coaches – Jake Kendall, Mark Cook, Richard Cornell & Michael O’Callaghan have all attained the necessary qualifications, including first aid training & current CRB accreditation – copies of these documents are held in Mick’s Welfare Folder – should anyone wish to view them. I can also confirm that we are currently working towards getting all our Umpires/Scorers involved in Junior Cricket CRB Checked as well (where not one of the above).
To support the commitment of the coaching staff, we have decided to formally introduce a Code of Conduct for both colts and their parents/guardians.
It is not “legally” binding but will be viewed as a gesture of support from the parents and colts. We hope that this will be agreeable to everyone. If anyone has a problem with any of the content, contact Mick as the Club Welfare Officer (or Richard in his absence) - will be more than pleased to discuss any issues with you.
Here’s looking forward to an enjoyable 2010 season.
